Definitions

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:

Collecting and Using Your Personal Data

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using Our Service, We may ask You to provide Us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify You. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.

Usage Data may include information such as Your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that You visit, the time and date of Your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

When You access the Service by or through a mobile device, We may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device You use, Your mobile device unique ID, the IP address of Your mobile device, Your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser You use, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

We may also collect information that Your browser sends whenever You visit our Service or when You access the Service by or through a mobile device.

The POV Application

POV is a daily English speaking-practice application. This section describes the Application specifically, because it processes categories of information the Website does not: Your voice, an account, and a subscription. Where this section and the general sections differ, this section governs the Application.

Voice Recordings and Speech

The Application asks for microphone access so You can record Yourself speaking. Your voice recordings are stored only on Your Device. We never upload, receive, store, or listen to them, and they are never sent to any server of Ours. Deleting a recording in the Application, or uninstalling the Application, removes it from Your Device permanently. We cannot restore a recording, because We never had a copy of it.

While You record, the Application converts Your speech to text so that it can count the words You spoke on Your Device. This conversion is performed by the speech recognition service built into Your Device's operating system. Depending on Your Device and Your operating system settings, that service may transmit Your audio to Apple or to Google in order to transcribe it. That processing is carried out by them, as the providers of Your Device's operating system, under their own privacy policies, and We are not a party to it. You can review or restrict it in Your Device settings; the Application continues to record without it, and tells You when transcription is unavailable.

The resulting transcript stays on Your Device. It is used to show You Your own words and to compute three measurements: whether You said the day's opening line, how many words You added, and how long You spoke. These measurements are computed entirely on Your Device. The Application makes no artificial-intelligence queries; no system of Ours evaluates, scores, or judges what You said, and the text of what You said is never transmitted to Us or to any third party by the Application.

Account Information

The Application creates an anonymous account through Firebase Authentication when You first open it, so that Your progress can be kept. You may optionally link that account to Your Google or Apple account in order to keep Your progress when You change Device. If You do, We receive the identifier and the email address that Google or Apple provides for that sign-in. We do not receive Your password.

Practice Progress

When Your account is linked, the Application backs up Your practice progress to Firebase Cloud Firestore: which days You completed and when, Your star result for each day, Your selected level, Your streak protection days, the phrases You saved, their review schedule, and Your total speaking time. This backup contains no audio and no transcript of anything You said.

Subscriptions

Paid subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat, who tells the Application whether Your subscription is active. Your payment method and billing details are handled by Apple or Google and are never seen by Us. RevenueCat identifies Your subscription by Your account identifier and by the store receipt.

Notifications

If You permit notifications, the Application schedules them on Your Device and registers a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so We can send occasional messages about the Service. That token identifies the installation on Your Device. You may withdraw notification permission at any time in Your Device settings.

Diagnostics and Analytics

The Application uses Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring to understand how the Service is used and to diagnose crashes. These record events such as opening a day, finishing a recording, and the numeric results described above, together with device and application identifiers, and are associated with Your account identifier. They never carry Your recordings or the text of what You said. A completed practice reports counts and durations, not words.

Deleting Your Account

You can delete Your account from within the Application, under Settings. Doing so deletes Your progress backup and Your authentication record. Your recordings are on Your Device and are removed with the Application's data.

Deleting Your account does not cancel a paid subscription. A subscription is held by Your Apple ID or Google account, not by Us, and must be cancelled through the App Store or Google Play. The Application shows You this before You confirm deletion.
